What is a calling in American Mahjong?

Definition

Calling is claiming the most recent discard, before the next player draws, to complete a pung, kong, quint, or your winning hand.

You must say it out loud in time, take the tile, expose the completed set, and then discard. There is no calling for runs in American Mahjong.

See it on real tiles: the coach reads any hand and names its direction, free, at the free read. Members get the coach on call for their own games.
