Can you learn American Mahjong online?

Yes. This track teaches it in ten interactive lessons, 86 minutes in all, from the tiles and the deal through the Charleston, jokers, calling, hand-reading and defense. Of its 125 steps, 67 are questions to answer, tiles to tap or hands to build on screen, graded as you go.

Are the lessons free?

The first three are free and need no account. Do I need a mahjong set or the card to start?

No. Every tile in the lessons is shown on screen. To play a real game you need a 152-tile American set and the current year's card from the National Mah Jongg League, and Lesson 3, which is free, explains how the card is laid out.

How long does the lesson track take?

86 minutes in all, 7 to 10 minutes a lesson. A finished lesson is marked on this page, so you can take them one at a time.
