What is a misdeal in American Mahjong?

Definition

A misdeal is a deal in which a player ends up with the wrong number of tiles, and it is usually corrected by dealing again if it is caught before play begins.

Count your tiles before the Charleston: thirteen for everyone and fourteen for East. A wrong count discovered later usually makes that hand dead rather than forcing a redeal.

See it on real tiles: the coach reads any hand and names its direction, free, at the free read. Members get the coach on call for their own games.

More terms: Pung, Kong, Quint, Pair, Charleston, Blind pass, Courtesy pass, Joker.
