What is a open rack in American Mahjong?

Definition

Playing with an open rack means a beginner plays with their tiles visible so the table can help between decisions.

A generous convention for teaching nights; agree it up front so it does not feel like charity mid-hand.

See it on real tiles: the coach reads any hand and names its direction, free, at the free read. Members get the coach on call for their own games.

More terms: Pung, Kong, Quint, Pair, Charleston, Blind pass, Courtesy pass, Joker.
