What is a table rules in American Mahjong?

Definition

Table rules are the local agreements a group plays by on the questions the card leaves open, such as the jokerless bonus, the pie, and whether picking ahead is allowed.

They are legitimate, they vary from table to table, and most disputes come from two players assuming different ones. Agree them before the first deal at any new table.
