Definition
The hot wall is a table rule, not a League rule, that changes how a group plays once the game reaches the last stretch of the wall, for example by allowing calls only for mahjong.
The first 3 lessons are free, starting with Lesson 1, Meet the Tiles. Start Lesson 1, free.
Each group that plays a hot wall sets its own version. In one, a discard may be called only for mahjong once the hot wall starts, never for an exposure. In another, a player whose discard gives someone mahjong pays the whole table, unless three copies of that tile were already showing. The League's rules have no hot wall, and nothing in them changes because the wall is short.
At the table
Ask whether a new table plays a hot wall before the first deal, and settle where it starts and what it changes, because versions differ. Without that agreement, League rules apply to the last tile. The mistake is enforcing a hot wall penalty on a player who never agreed to it.
